MAEC Mission

The Mid-Atlantic Equity Center (MAEC) promotes academic rigor for students who have traditionally been denied educational opportunities and equal access to a quality education. We believe that promoting academic rigor for all students and ensuring that underrepresented groups of students have access to high quality curriculum and instruction are the most effective ways to address equity in the nation's schools.

To accomplish its mission the MAEC uses a systemic approach to technical assistance and resource development that places equity at the center of school improvement.
The MAEC provides:

  • customized technical assistance to stakeholders in academically challenged districts and schools; and
  • integrated support to state, district/school policymakers, teachers/practitioners, parents and other stakeholders to address the equity needs of students.

The MAEC uses many resources to serve district and school leaders. We build on current school improvement efforts being coordinated by state education agencies to provide direct technical assistance to districts. MAEC provides information briefs and white papers, hosts forums and web conferences, and supports an interactive website. A team of state specific technical assistance coordinators manage the work in each state.
