Technical Assistance & Training
The Mid-Atlantic Equity Center (MAEC) uses a systemic approach to providing technical assistance that focuses on promoting academic rigor for all students and improving the academic program for disadvantaged students, especially those who have traditionally been denied educational opportunities and equal access to a quality education. MAEC customizes services to address the specific needs of districts and schools and promotes the use of research-based strategies. The goal is to build the capacity of schools and districts to identify, address, and prevent equity-related issues.
- Consulting with district staff on the implementation of tiered interventions (RTI)
- Increasing teacher capacity to use differentiated instruction
- Developing district capacity to evaluate programs for English language learners and students with disabilities
- Building district capacity to implement appropriate testing accommodations for English language learners
- Using a research-based model for the early identification of students at risk of dropping out of school
- Assisting middle schools on early intervention for students at risk of dropping out
Products and Information Dissemination
MAEC develops and disseminates high quality resources for school boards, states, districts/school policymakers, teachers/practitioners, parents and other stakeholders that address the equity needs of students. MAEC hosts interactive web conferences and an annual forum to encourage collaboration and communication among equity experts and education practitioners.
